Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She was a member of an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arms control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
